BY THE GRACE OF ALLAH (SWT), NO POWER ON THE EARTH CAN KEEP KASHMIR SEPARATE FROM PAKISTAN ASSERTED BY SYED ALI SHAH GEELANI: POSTED BY HABIB YOUSAFZAI,
CHAIRMAN KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!

Kashmir shares a border which stretches seven hundred fifty miles with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. All rivers which originate and run through Kashmir flow to Pakistan. The air which blows in Kashmir comes from Rawalpindi (Pakistan). We the Kashmiris have rain when it rains in Pakistan. Based on these God given natural phenomenons, historical facts, and our blood relations, I proclaim that Kashmir is natural part of Pakistan. By the grace of Allah (SWT), no power on the earth can keep Kashmir and Pakistan separate for long, God-willing.

PERVEZ MUSHARRAF; SCAPEGOAT TO FAR MORE PRESSING MATTERS: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

PERVEZ MUSHARRAF; SCAPEGOAT TO FAR MORE PRESSING MATTERS: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!

Recently, the Pakistani news media has been aggressively covering the trial of General (retired) Pervez Musharraf. The fact is, however, we should temper our allegations and focus on the true issues at hand that are actually far more pressing for the Pakistani state. Pervez Musharraf, the former President of Pakistan is an important figure, but does not deserve the intense scrutiny and media coverage that which he is currently deserving. This comment does not speak to his individual importance, or, his innocence or guilt in his actions and the allegations made against him. However, we must question how can we focus so closely on Musharraf when Pakistan is in an energy crisis, corruption is rampant, terrorism and the breakdown of law and order is everywhere, and, sectarianism has plagued all those who live in the state? Rather than going on a crusade to hang and kill Musharraf, given the state of Pakistan, would it not be more relevant to put him to use for the state?

Musharraf possesses valuable military experience and experience within the administration. But beyond Musharraf, there are far more pressing matters at hand. The Pakistan government and news media must swiftly move away from the past, and the events of Musharraf, and gear themselves towards the present. Why is the media making a field day out of Musharraf? Why do they not aggressively and critically cover the lack of development in the Kala Bagh Dam? Or, why are we not seeing collective action to separate many of the larger provinces into smaller regions/territories so that they no longer serve as impediments to decisions made at the federal level? These are questions we need to critically analyze, and that we must look to in order to assess if the time being spent on a single man is worth more than the collective wellbeing of millions living in Pakistan.

Pakistan is the fort of Islam, and as such, we must ensure that we focus on issues that strengthen the state and bring about positive change. Only through a strong and prosperous Pakistan can those in Maqbooza Kashmir ever achieve their freedom. Is not the wellbeing of the Pakistani state a worthy pursuit?

HABIB YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE CONDEMNS THE ARREST OF ASIYA ANDRABI FOR ‘ANTI-VALENTINE’S DAY CAMPAIGN’ IN MAQBOOZA KASHMIR

HABIB YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE CONDEMNS THE ARREST OF ASIYA ANDRABI FOR ‘ANTI-VALENTINE’S DAY CAMPAIGN’ IN MAQBOOZA KASHMIR

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!

Kashmir Diaspora Alliance strongly condemns the Indian government for the arrest of Syeda Asiya Andrabi. This malicious act committed by the Indian government is a violation of fundamental civil and political rights. The Indian government claims to be the so called largest democracy in the world, yet it penalizes minorities for utilizing those very civil and political rights to express their religious beliefs. Furthermore, we endorse Syeda Asiya Andrabi protest against Valentine’s Day as the idea celebrated on this day is contrary to the teachings of the religion of Islam. Islam emphasizes marriage for young people provided that they have the means to do so. And if they do not, they are instructed to fast in order to restrain from their lower desires. On the contrary, Valentine’s Day is one which pushes young and old alike to pursue illicit relationships outside the realms of marriage. A closer look into any society which has derailed away from this advice will show the medical and psychological diseases that have infested such societies. Therefore, we call for the immediate release of this innocent woman.

Police detain Asiya Andrabi for ‘anti-Valentine’s Day campaign’

MUDASIR YAQOUB

Srinagar, Feb 14: Police Friday detained the chairperson of Duktaran-e-Millat Syeda Asiya Andrabi along with three others members here when they were attempting to raid a few restaurants as part of their campaign against the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
She expressed satisfaction over the DeM’s anti-Valentine drive. “We have been carrying out this campaign against obscenity for several years now. Our drive is aimed at safeguarding the youth from the obscene western culture,” she said.
She said the DeM visited many restaurants in Srinagar to spread their anti-Valentine's day message and stop youngsters from observing the Day, “We found zero celebrations on ground,” she said. Police detained and lodged her at Kothibagh police station along with three other DeM members.
Expressing resentment over the release of ex-Minister Shabir Khan in the sexual assault case, Andrabi said law is different when the victim is a Kashmiri woman. “It shakes the Parliament, civil society, police and civil administration in India when the victim is Nirbhaya (the Delhi gang-rape victim). But when the victims are Neelofar and Asiya of Shopian or those from Kunan-Poshpora, the law is silent and indifferent,” she said while talking to media-persons before her detention.

Subject: 23 FEBRUARY: KASHMIRI WOMEN’S RESISTANCE DAY

Press Release, 14 February 2014

For twenty four years the women of Jammu and Kashmir have been subject to widespread and systematic gendered human rights violations, including rapes, sexual assaults, abductions, disappearances, extra judicial executions, and torture perpetrated by the Indian state- paramilitary, army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and others. Through these years, women from Jammu and Kashmir have struggled for truth, justice, and to lead lives free of fear, threats, violence and stigma. They have refused to let their voices be silenced, against tremendous odds, whether it is by speaking out against their perpetrators, publicly exposing official attempts at cover ups, organizing as women’s groups, or approaching the State Human Rights Commission [SHRC], or legal forums for justice. On the occasion of the twenty third anniversary of the mass rape and torture at Kunan Poshpora, and recognizing the resilience and courage of all women in Jammu and Kashmir against State violence, we urge all sections of Kashmiri society to commemorate 23 February from this year as the Kashmiri Women’s Resistance Day.

Rapes and sexual assaults, which are internationally recognized as a war crime, and a form of torture, have been extensively and routinely used as a weapon of war in Jammu and Kashmir. All the organs and agencies of the State have deliberately impeded processes of justice and truth for victims, and have colluded to ensure impunity to armed forces. They have specifically fostered and endorsed impunity for sexual crimes, within the wider culture of impunity that prevails in Jammu and Kashmir. The Kunan Poshpora case is emblematic of both this pervasive culture of impunity, and of the long-standing resistance against such atrocities. On the intervening night of 23/24 February 1991, personnel of the Indian Army, 4th Rajputana Rifles, 68 Mountain Brigade, gang raped many women of Kunan and Poshpora while the men from the villages were subject to mass torture. On 21 October 1991, the case was closed as untraced; however no formal closure report was submitted before a competent court. In April 2013, 50 Srinagar based women from diverse age groups and backgrounds, filed a PIL before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir demanding the re-opening and re-investigation of the case. This PIL prompted the police to file a closure report, which on being resisted by the survivors, led to an order for further investigations. To date, the police are in contempt of the Court’s orders, as the time granted by the Court has expired and they carried out no investigations in the villages. The Indian army has now sought to shut down the investigations altogether, by filing a revision petition against the Magistrate’s order of further investigation, which the survivors are resisting at the Kupwara Sessions Court. The government of Jammu and Kashmir, whether through the police or the Public Prosecutor, have repeatedly displayed their lack of seriousness in prosecuting the case or bringing the perpetrators to justice. To commemorate Kashmiri Women’s Resistance Day this year, a special programme organized by Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society and the Support Group for Justice for Kunan Poshpora Survivors will be held on 23 February at 1:30 p.m, [exact venue to be decided, and announced]. We call on all members of civil society, political parties, women’s groups, student organizations and others to endorse, recognize and remember the struggle, resistance and sacrifices of the women of Jammu and Kashmir on this day. Public support and solidarity for the struggle of the survivors of mass rape and torture in Kunan Poshpora, as part of a wider movement towards ending impunity  for sexual crimes and violence against women in Jammu and Kashmir, is vital, on this, the ‘Kashmiri Women’s Resistance Day, 2014’  .
