THE INHABITANTS OF AZAD KASHMIR MUST HAVE A SAY IN THE AFFAIRS OF PAKISTAN: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN OF THE KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE
ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!
The people of Pakistan or those in Kashmir which perceive Pakistan to be a disputed territory are incorrect. In fact, there is no dispute; legally due to the partition plan and the July 19th 1947 decision of the Kashmiris themselves it is a part of Pakistan as per international law. Whatever has been liberated from the Indian government is apart of Pakistan only because due to a last resort, it had to be liberated through military means. Pakistan should not advance forward until it has secured what it has already liberated; failing with it shall lose the whole region. The story is the same with Maqbooza kashmir.
Maqbooza Kashmir comprising of 42,000 square miles is at the moment designated as a disputed territory; however, it was fraudulently occupied by India on October 27, 1947. Once it is liberated it will also be joined with Pakistan as its seventh province. We must give astute attention to that part of Kashmir which has already been liberated though. Azad Kashmir in the current situation is not getting equitable representation in the federal government of Pakistan. Neither is it getting an equitable share of the national wealth. The government must ensure that the share of the wealth should be distributed to each and every inhabitant living in any part of Pakistan. Moreover, nor in the past, present, or future we should not create extra nations on the basis of regions. Therefore, Azad Kashmir should be given the full provincial status so that the average citizen has a fair say in provincial government and be able to contribute to the day to day decision making in federal government as well.
