PAKISTAN MUST MAKE AZAD KASHMIR ITS SIXTH PROVINCE: HABIB
YOUSAFZAI, CHAIRMAN OF THE KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE
ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!
The people of Maqbooza Kashmir want to see Pakistan strong
and secure. Azad Kashmir comprising 4,000 square miles is treated at par to a
Province. In fact it is the sixth de facto province of Pakistan. If we keep
Azad Kashmir as a separate entity, and then liberate Maqbooza Kashmir (42,000
square miles under illegal occupation since October 27,1947), it is as though we
are planting the seeds of a separate state to emerge. This will result in
Pakistan losing even more of its territory because of this illegitimate precedence.
It is imperative to make the already liberated territory constitutionally
secure. We must act now as India is constantly in a struggle and working hard
to either sever Pakistan’s territory from it as a separate state or to remain
as an occupier. This is the exact strategy it had successfully deployed on the
Sikh Homeland Punjab, Khalistan which is actually a separate nation but now has
been merged into India. Muslim states of Junagarh and Hyderabad are also
examples for which India has legitimized its occupation through a claim that
these two states have a majority Hindu population. The people of Kashmir have
already given their verdict on July 19, 1947 under the leadership of Sardar
Ibrahim Khan Ghazi-e-Millat and we cannot and have no need to ratify our
decision every few decades. Maqbooza Kashmir being the rightful part of
Pakistan, Pakistan must not and has not given up because it is an integral part
of Pakistan. As a result of that India dismembered East Pakistan in 1971 which
is now known as Bangladesh.
We must realize that India will not honour the UN, nor UN
will implement resolution on Kashmir until Pakistan becomes stronger. By
keeping Azad Kashmir a separate entity India did not handover Maqbooza Kashmir
to Pakistan for the last 68 years. It is better to act now to secure Azad
Kashmir rather than expressing regrets afterwards. Pakistan must approve Azad
Kashmir as the sixth province in its constitution.
