THOSE LIVING IN PAKISTAN NOW ARE BONA FIDE CITIZENS OF PAKISTAN: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, THE CHAIRMAN OF THE KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE
ASSALAM-O-ALIKAUM!
The Soviet Union sent its 40th Army to fight in Afghanistan and occupy the region. They began to reach Afghanistan from 25 December 1979. The fighting continued for about ten years. The Muslim nation of Afghanistan did not accept the slavery of the Soviet Union and fought back relentlessly. The Pakistani nation also assisted their brothers in Afghanistan to eject the Russian army. Finally, on February 15, 1989, after almost a decade of fighting, the Soviet Union announced that all its troops had withdrawn from Afghanistan. As a result of the fight and unrest in Afghanistan, an influx of people moved in Pakistan. At present it is host to 1.5 million PoR (proof of residency) card holders, constituting the world’s largest protracted refugee population under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) mandate in a single country. In addition, according to the Pakistani government, there are an estimated 1 million undocumented Afghans residing in Pakistan. Those populations include many who fled conflict and repression in Afghanistan during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and their descendants.
Some of them arrived as children, grew up in Pakistan, have married, and had children of their own who have never lived in Afghanistan. Others have arrived in the decades of turmoil in Afghanistan since, seeking security, employment, and a higher standard of living. Recently, some members of Pakistan police have pursued an unofficial policy of punitive retribution that has included raids on Afghan settlements; detention, harassment, and physical violence against the immigrants who were born or have lived in Pakistan more than 35 years. Although the Muslims are one nation wherever in the world they live in the sight of Allah (SWT), but the Muslims of Afghanistan and Pakistan are related in blood. These refugees from Afghanistan hold very special characteristics; they have great resolve, are honest, brave, have self-respect, are self-sufficient, loving, loyal, and bear high moral character. They are hardworking people and I believe they do not need any financial help. Pakistan must grant them citizenship, and if done so, they will prove an asset to the nation as they have all along. The people of the Hindu faith have never ruled a united India. These are the people whose forefathers such as Ahmad Shah Abdali (Rehmatullah Elehe), and Sultan Mahmood Ghaznavi (Rehmatullah Elehe) conquered and united the Indian subcontinent. The nation of Pakistan was established after rendering heavy price. At the time of division of Indian subcontinent, and its 560 princely states, the large number of people left the areas which had gone to India, and migrated to Pakistan. Others came from the Muslim states such as Junagarah, Manawader, Hyderabad (Deccan), and 42,000 square miles areas known as Maqbooza Kashmir when India illegally occupied them by force. Indian leadership in order to maintain its hegemony over South Asia did not even spare its close ally, the Sikhs. Despite the Sikh’s assertion that they are not Hindus, Indian government merged their inherited state Punjab (Khalistan) with the Indian union declaring them Hindus. Pakistan however managed to liberate about 4,000 square miles of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is known as Ghazi Kashmir or Azad Kashmir. These people who migrated from India and from these occupied territories have played a huge role in establishing and building of Pakistan. Prior to partition Hari Singh Dogra the Hindu ruler of Kashmir conspired with the Indian leadership and their forces combined killed more than 200,000 Muslims in Jammu region and rest were asked to leave if they want to save their life. The first and foremost objective of India is to destabilize Pakistan by creating a division among Pakistani nation.
Fast forward to the present and an election is right around the corner in Ghazi Kashmir. India’s collaborators and foolish political leaders of Ghazi Kashmir are emotionally blackmailing the populace by instigating the civilian population as if their job is to fight against 700,000 troops stationed in Maqbooza Kashmir. As a result of this propaganda, many students and some adults are confused and are not paying attention to their immediate goal which should be their own personal success and the prosperity of the nation. Moreover these power hungry leaders in order to fulfil their selfish motives are trying to gather the popular vote by declaring that the people who migrated from India to establish Pakistan are in fact still refugees after decades.
This is a sad story where so much division is being propagated in nation that should be bound by the Islamic faith. In stark contrast we can see that Syrians refugees are being enthusiastically accepted by many countries. In the case of Canada, Prime Minster Justin Trudeau, along with many of his cabinet ministers were even present at the Toronto Pearson International Airport to receive them. There are many other people in different parts of the world who leave their countries and take refuge in the other countries for a better life. Once the cases of these asylum seekers are accepted and after necessary fulfilment of their residency requirements, they are granted full and equal citizenship. As soon they are citizens they are treated at par to other people who are born and raised in the country. These new immigrants can vote and stand in the election to be a part of government and this is not even on the basis of religion; it is simply on the basis of humanity. What is wrong with our nation that after decades, we are trying to divide and exclude those who are already citizens of the nation?
