THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY MUST NOT BE DECEIVED BY INDIA’S INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS AS IT HAS NO LEGITIMACY WITHIN ITS DOMESTIC SPHERE IN MANY OF ITS STATES DUE TO THEIR ILLEGAL OCCUPATION: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, FRIENDS OF KASHMIR

ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!

India’s independence is nothing other than a farce. The Indian state is facing a legitimacy crisis as there exists no unilateral consensus both within the domestic sphere and internationally as to what actually makes it up as an autonomous state. Many of its territories were forcefully occupied at the time of partition including Junagar, Munwadar, Hyderabad, Maqbooza Kashmir, and Punjab (Khalistan). These occupations have taken place with the establishment of a hegemonic Indian state within the South Asian region in mind and in order to maintain its presence within these territories, the state has committed countless war crimes and human rights violations over the last six decades. Maqbooza Kashmir is an excellent example which exposes the India’s true nature as despite claiming to be the world’s largest democracy; it has killed over 200,000 civilians while occupying it for over six decades. Similar cases are widespread in many other regions. In order to protest against the recent atrocities which have taken place in Maqbooza Kashmir on the Islamic holiday of Eid, the Indian states vehement attempts to block a plebiscite in Maqbooza Kashmir which itself hypocritically initiated after forcefully occupying it (but did not take the case of various other states that it had occupied), and the atrocities it has committed in various other states; people from all walks of life gathered to protest.

A successful protest took place at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto, Canada from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Dr.Azrab Khan, Abdullah Khawaja, Dr.Khalid Taj , Dr. Shahid Mahmood, Mian Yasin, Chaudhry Ghafoor, Jamil Ansari, Habib Yousafzai, and Balkar Singh organized the protest. At the heart of its goal was put pressure and bring light to the atrocities taking place in order to have the withdrawal of all occupation forces from the many different territories which the Indian state has occupied, to expose the absence of any real legitimacy or unified identity which exists in the state, and to push forward the democratic right of self-determination for all occupied peoples. Participants which gathered to highlight the atrocities varied in country of origin, age etc. and included the United Front of Sikhs and many of its members. All those who sacrificed their time in order to strive towards this righteous cause and speak for those who do not possess a voice of their own should be commended for their efforts. With the help of Almighty God, all those who stand for human dignity and rights will not stop raising their voices against oppression until it ceases to exist. With movements for education and awareness such as these, it will not be long when the day comes in which every single Indian armed and civil personnel withdraws from all occupied territories and its peoples are liberated.
