The inhabitants of Maqbooza Kashmir and the citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan no longer have any choice but to struggle for the implementation of the UN resolution for the liberation of both its people and the release of its territory held by the Indian government.

KASHMIR-EU WEEK CONCLUDED AT EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: A NUMBER OF PEOPLE SHOW INTEREST, SEMINAR ARRANGED BY THE MR.ALI RAZA SYED, CHAIRMAN OF ICHD AND KASHMIR COUNCIL EU

A week long programme on Kashmir issue titling ‘Kashmir EU Week’ was concluded at EU parliament in Brussels yesterday. A large number of the people from different walks of life expressed their interest in the programme included a seminar, documentary film and art and photos exhibition on Kashmir.

British Conservative MEP, Mr.Sajjad Karim, made a powerful call to EU citizens, especially from the Pakistani and Kashmiri community, to lobby their politicians in helping Kashmir achieve peace.

At the packed seminar highlighting the Kashmir conflict in the European Parliament, MEP Mr.Sajjad Karim said: "With the European election coming ahead in the next few months, the Kashmir Diaspora has an opportunity to engage and put pressure on their EU officials to bring about a real change in the approach to Kashmir."

The British MEP chaired the seminar which featured a highly distinguished panel of speakers, including the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan.

President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was invited by Mr.Sajjad Karim to take part in events for the 5th annual conference in the European Parliament highlighting the Kashmiri struggle which was hosted by the MEP. The programme ‘Kashmir EU Week’ was organized with collaboration of International Council for Human Development (ICHD), Kashmir Council EU, World Kashmiri Diaspora Alliance (WKDA).

The President was confident his visit and the conference would raise awareness in the EU of the appalling human rights abuses which are taking place in Kashmir. During the exhibition he said: “This is a fantastic conference and I am very proud of Mr.Sajjad Karim’s work in the European Parliament to raise awareness of the Kashmir struggle. The global awareness of the situation in Kashmir is increasing.”

The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was also accompanied by Ms.Farzana Yaqoob, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Affairs, who contributed to the panel discussion and spoke at the opening reception.

Mr.Karim, who was rapporter for the EU-India Free Trade Agreement which was adopted in 2009 and successfully implemented the inclusion of the Human Rights and Democracy clause, spoke on the need to highlight the Kashmir conflict in the EU. He said:"The single biggest battle we have is when we come up about MEPs who are unaware of the Kashmiris' struggle"

However the seminar and conference was well attended with MEPs Jean Lambert and Phil Bennion, taking part in events during the exhibition. Both are members of the European Parliament Friends of Pakistan group of which Sajjad Karim is chairman.

Mr.Ali Raza Syed, who is Chairman of ICHD and Kashmir Council EU and was instrumental in helping to organize the exhibition .During the seminar, he questioned the actions of the international community and called for more support of the Kashmiri's.

Other speakers at the seminar Danielle Caron, Member of Brussels Parliament talked about EU AJK relations. Mr.Farooq Siddiqi, Chairman of World Kashmiri Diaspora Alliance spoke about the ongoing HR abuses in Indian Held Kashmir and he urged the international community to help the people of Kashmir.
Mr.Munawar Saeed Bhatti, Pakistani Ambassador to Brussels/EU also asked the EU to help end the HR violations against Kashmiris.

Jean Lambert, Green MEP, Chair of South Asia Delegation of EP,  Ms.Farzana Yaqoob, Azad Jammu & Kashmir Minster for Social Welfare and Women Development, Mr.Zouhour Wani, Attorney of Law (New York, USA), Mr.Shujaat Bukhari, Chief Editor, Rising Kashmir, Srinagar (Kashmir), Laura Schuurmans, Research scholar on Kashmir conflict (Indonesia), Mr.Altaf Hussain Wani, APHC Azad Kashmir were also among the speakers.

Mr.Yasin Malik, Chairman JKLF Srinagar Jammu & Kashmir and Mr.Parvez Imroz, President of JKCCS/IPT Srinagar also addressed the gathering via video link from Srinagar while Ms.Marjan Lucas, Human Rights Activist (The Netherlands) was moderator of the whole programme.
