Demonstrators in Brussels call for
handing over of the remains of Butt and Guru to Kashmiris. Demonstrators
in Brussels called the Indian government to hand over of the bodies of Afzal
Guru and Maqbool Butt to Kashmiris for proper funeral and decent burial. The
protest demonstration was organized by a committee of Europe based different
Kashmiri organizations in front of Indian Embassy in the Belgium’s capital. The
committee is working to take over the remains of Maqbool Butt from the Indian
authorities. Kashmir Council EU also participated in the demonstration.
Kashmiris on both sides of the ceasefire line (Line of Control) and across the world observe the martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, Monday (Feb 11).Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail of New Delhi on the 11th February in 1984 for his leading role in the Kashmiris’ on-going liberation struggle. He was buried in the premises of the prison.The hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru coincides with the martyrdom anniversary of Maqbool ButtMuhammad Afzal Guru is 2nd Kashmiri who was hanged and buried at the same Tehar prison by the Indian Authorities. Hanging of the Kashmiri youth Afzal Guru has also evoked widespread condemnation.
Denouncing the handing of Afzal Guru without proper judicial arrangements, the protesters demanded an immediate handing over of the body of Afzal Guru to his family for proper funeral prayers.A large number of Kashmiris and their supporters attended the demonstration and the speakers on the occasions said that Guru was not given a fair trial. Talking to the media after the demonstration, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed condemned the imposition of strict curfew all across Indian Held Kashmir by the authorities for the 3rd consecutive day, today, to prevent people from holding demonstrations. He also denounced the house arrest and detention of a number of leaders in Maqbooza Kashmir including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Maulana Abbas Ansari and Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi.
