KASHMIRIS PROTESTED IN FRONT OF CONSULATE GENERAL OFFICE OF INDIA TORONTO, CANADA ON THE DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF MAQBOOL BUTT SHAHEED AND THE ILLEGAL HANGING OF AFZAL GURU SHAHEED: HABIB YOUSAFZAI

On February 10, 2013, the Kashmiri community protested in front of the Consulate General office of India located at 365 Bloor Street East, Toronto, Canada, against the illegal hanging of Afzal Guru (Shaheed) on February 09, 2013 and over the death anniversary of Maqbool Butt Shaheed (Kashmir liberation leader) who was falsely hung on February 11, 1984. It is noteworthy that the dead body of Afzal Guru Shaheed was buried in the jail where he was sent to gallows. His next of kin were not given the dead body in the same fashion the mother of Maqbool Butt (Shaheed) was refused the remains of her son and instead waited outside at the gate while Butt was buried in Tihar jail. Afzal’s body was taken down from the gallows and buried near Jail No. 3, right next to the grave of Kashmir liberation leader Maqbool Butt Shaheed, who too was hanged in Tihar. This is the happenings in India, supposedly, the world’s “largest and progressive democracy.” Furthermore, the protesters emphatically demanded the return of the remains of both of their Shaheeds and withdrawal of Indian occupational forces from the Internationally Disputed Areas of Jammu and Kashmir (Maqbooza Kashmir) which has already massacred over 200,000 innocent citizens in the occupied territory. The protest was organized by Syed Noushad Hussain, Shahid Mehmood,Chaudhry Mohammad Naim, Aurangzeb Alamgir Mughal, Chengez Ghazi, Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Mohammad Aslam Qadri, and Habib Yousafzai. People of all walks of life including children, women and elderly joined the protest which continued for two hours and ended peacefully.
