Barrier Separating Kashmiris Will Crumble Like Berlin Wall: Yasin Malik

Srinagar, Feb 15: People in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) Friday, on the call of PaK premier Chaudry Abdul Majid, held a protest rally at Muzaffarabad against the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru in Tihar Jail at New Delhi on February 9. The all-parties protest rally was presided over by the PaK president Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan. The chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhamamd Yasin Malik was the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Malik alleged that the government of India “committed a crime” by hanging the father of Kashmiri nation Muhammad Maqbool Butt on 11th February 1984 and repeated the “same tyrant approach on 9th of February 2013 by hanging son of Kashmir Muhammad Afzal Guru.” “Maqbool’s martyrdom gave birth to lakhs of Maqbools in Kashmir and about one lakh Kashmiris followed his footprints and embraced martyrdom. Now the government of India has martyred Afzal in the same manner. New Delhi should know that this martyrdom and sacred blood will surely create many more Afzals and the flame of freedom struggle will get much brighter,” the Front spokesman quoted Yasin Malik as having said. “Kashmiris have not and will not take these barbaric acts lightly and will continue their protest.”
Demanding the return of mortal remains of Butt and Guru, Malik said: “Human world and civil society especially the Indian civil society will have to take action, open their lips and stop government of India’s tyrant approach. And if they fail to do so people will lose faith in peace, harmony and humanity.”Appealing to the people of Kashmir to continue their protests and demand for return of mortal remains of both the martyred leaders, Malik said: “We cannot forget the martyrs and those who sacrificed their lives.”
Thanking the people and leadership of PaK for showing their support and solidarity, Malik said the hearts and minds of Kashmiris across the ceasefire line (LOC) are one. “Our land, sky, air and water is one; our soul and body is one and no one can stop us from being one nation.” “The world through its might divided Germany into two and even a wall was erected between the two but world couldn’t divide the people of Germany and that is why after many years of separation the Germans got together and the human nature defeated the might of the world and Berlin Wall fell down into pieces,” Malik said, adding that “The artificial wall separating Kashmiris will also fall down like the Berlin Wall and Kashmir will become one.”
On the occasion a resolution was unanimously passed, vehemently condemning, what it stated, the secretive and selective hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru and burial of body in Tihar Jail. It appealed to international powers and global human society to influence government of India through their diplomatic channels for immediate handing over of the bodies of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru to their families for a respectable religious burial.The resolution also condemned the curfew clamped in Kashmir for the last six days which kept more than 10 million people under siege and depriving them of all basic facilities of life and stopping their access to information and social media. “There are restrictions on newspapers. The whole valley is like a jail. This meeting also condemns these inhuman, barbaric acts of Indian state,” a resolution reads, appealing to the international and regional human rights organizations to take serious note of the violations of the human rights by this ‘so-called largest and secular democracy’.
It said this democracy “deprived Afzal Guru of basic right of access to a lawyer in his defense.”“We support and believe in, and will continue non-violent democratic freedom movement for right of self-determination till it reaches its logical conclusion. We appeal the UN, European Union, OIC, SAARC, ASEAN and all other international and regional bodies to wake up and come to the rescue of helpless Kashmiri people. Community of Nations must exert its pressure on government of India to stop human rights violations and to release innocent Kashmiris detained in jails, interrogation centers and torture cells,” another resolution reads.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar JKLF members and activists protested against the continued oppression and hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru, demanding the bodies of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.“The protest rally which was held peacefully today at Maisuma here was attacked by the police and CRPF. Many people including JKLF leaders and activists Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Muhammad Arshad were injured. Police and forces unleashed reign of terror in the locality and broke glasses and doors of houses,” said the spokesman, adding that “in Ganderbal a procession led by JKLF leader Bashir Ahmad Rather was taken out peacefully.”
JKLF has strongly condemned the attack on students in Dehradun and the arrest of hundreds of youth including kids by police in Kashmir.Prominent among others who participated and addressed the gathering included the PaK Prime Minister Chaudry Abdul Majeed; leader of opposition and chief PML (N) PaK Raja Farooq Haider, former Prime Minister PaK and the president All Jammu & Kashmir Muslim Conference Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan; former Convener APHC Yousaf Nasim; former president of the state Sardar Anwar Khan; President Jammu & Kashmir People’s Party Sardar Khalid Ibrahim; President JUI-PaK Molana Saeed Yousaf; President Jamat-I-Islami, PaK Moulana Turabi; President Jamiat Ahlaihadees, PaK; APHC leader Gulam Muhammad Safi; APHC leader Mehmood Ahmad Sagar and the representatives of different religious and political parties.
