INDIA’S LACK OF ACTION AGAINST CHINA AT LADAKH SECTOR REVEALS A LEGITIMACY CRISIS AMONGST THE POPULACE AND ITS OWN CONSCIOUS: HABIB YOUSAFZAI, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

INDIA’S LACK OF ACTION AGAINST CHINA AT LADAKH SECTOR REVEALS A LEGITIMACY CRISIS AMONGST THE POPULACE AND ITS OWN CONSCIOUS:
HABIB YOUSAFZAI, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

The Indian news media has been disseminating the general message that since April 15, 2013, Chinese troops have entered the Depsang Valley of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. As a result, India has been building up a military presence a long side the Northern borders with China. Ladakh is a part of Maqbooza Jammu and Kashmir which is a disputed territory and known as Internationally Disputed Area of Jammu and Kashmir (IDA:JK) by the UN. As such Indian armored forces should not be stationed in IDA:JK as it is not their legal territory, or neither is it an integral part of India as propagated by the Indian news media. India although presenting an image that it is the world’s largest democratic state more closely resembles that of a rogue state. It is a country which has not kept friendly relations with nations in its periphery such as Nepal, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Sikkim, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

It is a historical fact that soon after receiving its freedom from the British, India merged the Sikh Homeland of Punjab Khalistan without any plebiscite or referendum from the Sikh populace. India also forcefully occupied Manwadar, Junaghar, Hyderabad, and 42,000 square miles of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is referred as a disputed territory as mentioned above. Although the Indian news media has been utilizing government supported propaganda in order to present the region as its “integral territory”; its actions in the recent events which have developed show otherwise. The Indian state knows full well that it holds no legitimacy in all of its occupied territories, including Ladakh, and as such has designated these developments as a “regional issue”. In reality, this legitimacy crisis amongst the populace and India’s own conscious has been a fundamental barrier for it to utilize diplomatic measures, let alone more aggressive military measures.

The People’s Republic of China is the only great power which supports the legitimate right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people and as such it is no surprise that they are avid supporters of Pakistan’s cause in Kashmir. Therefore, we the Kashmiris want to make it clear to the Indian government that their war mongering will not be allowed and no passage can be deemed as legitimate for usage by both the Indian Armed Personnel and its military logistics through the disputed territory to fight with the Chinese. The Indian government has been aggressively mobilizing and propagating a media spectacle to mobilize the local population in Ladakh. However, given that this region is a disputed area, India has long been oppressing the local populace and has refused the right of self-determination, and is a part of a broader occupied area of Jammu and Kashmir belonging to Pakistan; the propaganda is falling on deaf ears.
