Ludhiana, April 24- The Sikh Gurdwaras Coordination Committee (SGCC) have called upon worldwide Sikhs and all those who have respect for human rights and are opposed to the death penalty, to remain vigilant regarding the hanging of Prof Devinderpal Singh Bhullar who is facing gallows and has become victim of the fractured judicial judgment of the apex court and vote-bank politics, in a meeting held here yesterday in Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar.

“Although, the matter of hanging of Prof Bhullar, for the time being, seems suspended due his ill mental health and political pressure (lobby) but, at the same time, we should remain alert and wait for Panthak call in case of any eventuality,” said IHRO chairperson DS Gill, who briefed the gathering about the long battle the united Panth and other groups, world over have been fighting, including the German and Canada governments.

Sikh Gurdwaras Coordination Committee (SGCC) convener and president of Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar, Jatinder Singh Sandhu while articulating the next program in this regard and other related matters to the SGCC, said “We shall continue to take up issues facing Punjab and the Sikhs, including drug addition menace that is going to ruin the youth of Punjab.”

Newly appointed secretary of the SGCC, Inderjit Singh Sodhi, further clarified and explained the coordination committee’s mandate that “we gurdwaras in this coordination shall act as a watch dog for the Sikh matters collectively and severally to promote Sikhs separate identity and glorification of the Khalsa Panth.” He further added that they would lend all its support to all Sikh groups with this agenda, including SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, not any individuals.

Sukhdev Singh Laaj, in another resolution, thanked all social, Sikh and human rights groups who had participated in this anti-death penalty movement of Prof Bhullar, including Sri Akal Takht Jathedar and Punjab state government. Persons as Justice MB Shah, Press Council of India (PCI) chairperson Justice Markandey Katju and the then prosecuting advocate were specially appreciated in the resolution.

More than three dozen representatives of gurdwaras participated in the meeting, other persons who spoke included Master Ranjit Singh, Kuljinder Singh, Daljit Singh Grewal and Dalip Singh.
