PAKISTAN’S STRUGGLE OVER MAQBOOZA
KASHMIR, CONTRARY TO THE INDIAN STATE'S, IS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN MATERIAL POWER:
HABIB YOUSAFZAI, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE
The Kashmiri liberation struggle with
the help of Pathans (Mujahideen) and the Pakistani army was not an attempted land
grab. When the Muslims in Jammu were massacred in August 1947, in reaction to
this, Pakistan asserted its right to both its legal territory and its citizens.
In fact, rather than merely speculating, making assumptions, and manipulating
dates for the reasons behind Pakistan’s liberation struggle after the massacre against
the Kashmiri people; one should acknowledge the facts. These Mujahideen should
be commended as life is most dear to anyone who is fortunate to have it and the
Mujahideen of this region did not hesitate to put their lives on the line in
order to free their brothers. Due to their brave fight and sacrifice, they were
able to liberate 31,000 square miles of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is extremely important to
acknowledge that from day one the Indian government has sought to play the game
of power politics. As such, it has utilized all of its resources to destabilize
and weaken Pakistan, even in the first days of its formation. At the time of independence
India forcefully merged the Sikh Homeland of Punjab (Khalistan) of August 15, 1947. Furthermore, it also occupied Junagarh, Munwader, and Hyderabad.
Even more than two decade after independence, India through the use of coercion
dismembered East Pakistan from West Pakistan. All of this as stated earlier is
an attempt of dividing Muslims from their rightful position as part of the Pakistan
state in order to have an “adversary” with minimal material power. A similar
process has taken place over the course of history with Maqbooza Kashmir [AKA
Internationally Disputed Areas of Jammu and Kashmir IDA:JK by the UN]. Under
international law, IDA:JK is Pakistani territory in which Pakistani citizens
reside respectively and has always rightfully belonged to Pakistan. In fact,
the Indian government holds no legitimacy with the populace itself. As a result
of this, it is vehemently attempting to hold on to the occupied territory, and
at worst, if IDA:JK does receive its freedom, India would want this state to be
an independent state so that it could simply dictate and dominate it as its own
proxy. As such, both of the above scenarios are a win win situation for India
and an injustice to the people of IDA: JK. The Indian government’s worst
nightmare is that the territory which it has illegally occupied for over six
decades would accede to its rightful owner in Pakistan thereby increasing its
material power. The Indian government does not care for the fourteen million human
lives which have been institutionally subordinated and enslaved within the
territory. India’s only concern resides in the strategic role which IDA:JK
plays in increasing its own power, and continuing on its historical ambition in
attempting to keep Pakistan as weak and destabilized as possible.
Pakistan must not lose hope despite
the three wars that have been fought with India. For the Pakistani state, Maqbooza
Kashmir is about more than just material power; it is about the 14 million
citizens which rightfully belong to it. As such, Pakistan must use all the peaceful
means available to it through the international community and if this fails, it
must take necessary action as the citizens of IDA:JK have suffered for too
long.
