Srinagar, Maqbooza Kashmir May 12, 2013-Mother’s day is celebrated globally as a day in which to rejoice over the blessing and gifts of having one who loves unconditionally. However, in Maqbooza Kashmir just as in all regions of the world who have been historically subordinated and dominated, this is a day of extreme pain and sadness for mothers. This is because Maqbooza Kashmir is wrought with decades of murder for those who fight against oppression, and state sponsored kidnappings of its citizens. As such, in Maqbooza Kashmir, mothers are not celebrating today; rather, they are feeling great remorse over the death of their loved ones and waiting with great agony for their sons and daughters that have been kidnapped in state sponsored unexplained and illegal disappearances.

The Indian government has currently stationed over 700,000 of its armed forces in the occupied territory. This has left the region virtually devoid of human rights. The Indian regime and its armed forces as of October 27, 1947 (since the date of Indian occupation) have killed more than 202,803 citizens, made 215,994 arrests,110,117 have disappeared, 115,782 homes demolished, leaving 122,792 widows and 207,335 orphans. Indian forces have been committing crimes such as rape, torture, and gross human rights violations of the innocent Kashmiris. These cruelties have been documented by international human rights organizations such as United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, International Educational Development, International Tribunal on Kashmir and many others. It is due to these atrocities that mother’s day is not a day of celebration in Maqbooza Kashmir, rather, one of extreme pain and remorse.

As such it is pertinent that India not only ratifies the International Convention for Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances and immediately withdraws all of its armed and civil personnel from Maqbooza Kashmir.
