THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS VEHEMENTLY AVOIDING THE PUNISHMENT OF THE FOURTH RAJPUTANA BRIGADE AS IT WOULD EXPOSE THE USE OF RAPE AS A POLITICAL WEAPON AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF MAQBOOZA KASHMIR:

50 Maqbooza Kashmiri women have recently filed a Public Interest Litigation suite (PIL) on April 29, 2013 seeking justice for the horrific gang rape that took place in Kunan Poshpora over two decades ago. The rape took place on February 23/24, 1991 by the Indian soldiers pertaining to Fourth Rajputana Brigade and yet until this day justice has not been served. The women have demanded the immediate reopening and reinvestigation of the case in order to hold those responsible accountable. However, in the largest democracy in the world how is it that justice has for so long been avoided and is it likely that justice will now be served?

The fact of the matter remains that the Indian government has long sought to ignore and bury this case. The government’s attempts to simply let the case blow over is fundamentally tied to the broader political issue of an extremely sensitive nature, mainly, the occupation of Maqbooza Kashmir. As such, the Indian government has been vehemently avoiding the prosecution and punishment of the soldiers in the Fourth Rajputana Brigade as it is well aware that this would expose the rapes state sponsored nature. This is to assert that these rapes are unlike the ones which have recently taken place and have been highly publicized. Rather, these rapes that took place over two decades ago and ones that take place every day in Maqbooza Kashmir are used as a political weapon in order to suppress the freedom movement and humiliate the people of Maqbooza Kashmir which it has now occupied for over six decades. When the even greater and more unjust dynamic of the institutional subordination, domination, and mass murder of a populace is in jeopardy to come to light through the state sponsored rape of the 40 women who have brought forward PIL case; it is no wonder that they have not received justice. As such this is not an isolated incident which took place; rather it was and remains an ongoing problem which is a well coordinated, state sponsored assault on a minority populace which has long sought freedom from occupation.

The Kashmir Diaspora Alliance would like to present their full support behind and commend counsel Advocate Mr. Parvez Imroz who is pursuing this matter free of cost. He is an example for all of us and is striving for justice. Every human being that stands for justice should fully support him. The Kashmir Diaspora Alliances prayers are with him as the Indian government is sure threaten his life as the cause he is fighting for goes far beyond the tragic events that took place over 20 years ago.
